ABOUT

THE FARM

The Petting Barnyard is located at High Hill Farms and is owned and managed by shepherd Michele Potts. High Hill Farms is a working sheep and wool farm that raises unique Gotland sheep for meat and wool. Gotlands are a breed of sheep that are rare in Ohio and are native to Sweden. They are known for their friendly dispositions and their long, soft, curly and silky wool that comes in a variety of shades of gray and also for their mild tasting meat. In addition to the sheep, I raise chickens for eggs and meat and have a vegetable garden which supplies a large portion of the veggies I consume. Currently the goats at High Hill Farms are here for fun and entertainment! For more information on my Gotland sheep you can visit my Gotland sheep website www.highhillgotlands.com.

THE IDEA FOR THE PETTING BARNYARD

My kids grew up playing, learning and exploring in the barn, barnyard, streams, woods and pastures surrounding the farm where we lived. Now several years later as I watch the joy and wonder on my grandkids’ faces as they experience the same things that their mothers grew up with, I once again realize what a wonderful place a barnyard is for kids to play, explore and learn. I have also realized how much I enjoy introducing kids and families to the wonders of animals and the natural world. Most kids these days do not have a barnyard right out their back door. This is why I have decided to open my barnyard up to you and your family to come and learn, explore and enjoy! In addition to the safe petting pasture where you can pet, brush, feed and hang out with friendly sheep, goats and poultry, you will also find areas and activities where kids can explore and learn about farming and the natural world.
